EVENT IN ENGLISH, NO ONLINE STREAMING
MIT Hacking Medicine, an initiative born in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), is coming to the Einstein Hospital Israelita to host an unprecedented hackathon.
From September 5th to 7th, we will bring together professionals and students from healthcare, technology, business, and design for an immersive, hands-on, and transformative experience. Over the course of three days, participants will collaborate in teams to propose innovative healthcare solutions, based on two thematic tracks addressing real industry challenges.
Each track will present a specific issue, guiding the development of ideas with the potential to generate significant impact in the healthcare sector.
Get ready to transform healthcare with the global methodology that has already generated over 240 million dollars in investments worldwide.
In over 10 years of existence, MIT Hacking Medicine has held more than 200 hackathons in over 30 countries, contributing to the creation of more than 50 companies that have raised around USD 2.5 billion in funding. An immeasurable community has also been built, continuing to propel this mission forward.
Bringing Voice to Silent Diseases
Silent diseases represent one of the greatest threats to global health in the 21st century. They develop quietly, often without visible symptoms, and by the time they are diagnosed, they may have already caused deep and sometimes irreversible harm. Today, millions of lives are affected by conditions such as residual inflammatory risk in cardiovascular disease and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), which remain underdiagnosed, undertreated, and underprioritized.
In this context, Einstein Hospital Israelita, in partnership with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Novo Nordisk, and InterSystems, invites the community to help transform this reality. By selecting these two tracks for MIT Hacking Medicine Brazil, we aim to give voice to what is still overlooked.
Each participant must choose one of the two tracks below according to their interest and alignment with the topic. The entire hackathon journey, from team formation to solution development, will take place within the selected track.
TRACK 1
Metabolic dysfunction-associated
steatohepatitis (MASH)
Context: MASH is an advanced form of fat accumulation in the liver associated with metabolic dysfunction, with a high risk of progression to cirrhosis, liver cancer, and cardiovascular disease. It is silent, underdiagnosed, and growing alongside obesity and type 2 diabetes. It is estimated that about 32 million people live with MASH in Latin America.
Track Objective: Develop solutions for the prevention, screening, diagnosis, or monitoring of patients with MASH.

TRACK 2
Inflammation and
Cardiovascular Diseases
Context: Low-grade chronic inflammation plays a central role in the development of cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and heart failure. In Latin America, although the data is less consolidated than in other regions, it is estimated that the prevalence of CVDs is between 9% and 11% of the adult population, which represents approximately 50 to 60 million people affected in the region.
Track Objective: Create innovative solutions that address inflammation as a risk factor for heart disease.
